Psychosynthesis is an approach to understanding and working with people that evolved out of the applied scholarship (study of different cultures, philosophies and world literature) and the clinical research of Dr. Roberto Assagioli, a practicing psychotherapist and teacher and a contemporary of Freud and Jung.  He was attracted to the work of Abraham Maslow and shared his view of growth and development as a process of evolving synthesis (or integration) of the many unique attributes and potentials each person brings into his or her life. At its core psychosynthesis provides a holistic model, notably including a range of human experience from basic ‘lower’ unconscious drives to a sense of a higher meaning or purpose, or ‘higher’ motivational qualities.  The process of psychosynthesis iincludes specific core principles and a way to utilize various techniques and approaches as determined by the unique needs of each person.

Today psychosynthesis has evolved into an accessible practical and useful approach that uniquely addresses our positive inherent urge toward unfolding self-actualization, informs us in our understanding of wellness (and pathology), can be applied to all stages of individual growth and group processes, and serve as a self-mentoring ‘guide’ providing us with needed life-skills for addressing the many ongoing challenges of daily life.
