Dianne Mekelburg, M.Ed., E-RYT
Dianne brings a deep respect for the uniqueness of each person to her work. Dianne has a creative and intuitive approach to teaching and personal growth practices that are grounded in western academic and eastern philosophic traditions. She offers ongoing yoga classes and private yoga therapy, guided psychosynthesis and Ayurvedic sessions/consultations at her local studio, Beyond Postures, in Baltimore, Maryland. She also offers workshops and retreats part-time integrating yoga, meditation and personal growth practices at the Belfast Yoga And Retreat Center located on the mid-coast of Maine. She is the past Owner/Director of the Ahimsa Yoga Center in Baltimore, Maryland (now the Baltimore Yoga Village). She is also the webmaster for two websites: Beyond Postures and Psychosynthesis East West.

Dianne’s academic background includes Bachelor and Master’s degrees with studies in Human Growth and Development, Psychology and Education. She has done original published research in adolescent pregnancy which led to the development and funding of programs in early childhood development in high schools to support teenage mothers to continue their education. She has been a pre-school teacher, taught autistic children and children and youth identified as ‘at risk’ through a home and hospital program from kindergarten through high school.
Dianne has continued her academic studies with post graduate programs in Psychosynthesis, a psycho-spiritual approach that includes both western and eastern perspectives to human growth and development, and in Existential-Humanistic psychology. She studied psychosynthesis with Ann Gila completing a Foundations Course that was developed by John Firman and Ann Gila, founders of the Palo Alto Psychosynthesis Center and authors of three richly documented, researched and clinically-based books addressing the theory and practice of psychosynthesis. Dianne continued her studies in psychosynthesis through intensive study with Molly Young Brown completing certification in personal/spiritual psychosynthesis and Group Facilitation (levels 2 and 3). Molly Young Brown is the founder of Intermountain Psychosynthesis Center and author of 3 comprehensive books on the theory and practical application of psychosynthesis. Concurrently Dianne completed a 2 year certification program in the Existential-Humanistic approach and practice with Myrtle Heery, a colleague and student of James Bugental, founder of Existential-Humanistic Psychology, through the International Institute for Humanistic Studies. As part of the requirement for this certification Dianne wrote an article on existential-humanistic teaching entitled “The Subjective Experience of Yoga” published in the book “Unearthing the Moment XV1” by the Institute. She continues to seek consultation and supervision with both Molly Young Brown and Ann Gila and is considering pursuing an advanced study in Existential-Humanistic psychotherapy through the International Institute.
Dianne is in the process of developing an open-ware website offering free materials in the tools of psycho-spiritual growth and practices that will be available for anyone who is interested in exploring their own psycho-synthesis process free of charge. go to: Psychosynthesis East West. This is being done in conjunction with a training program in developing programs that will make the tools of psychosynthesis for self-growth and self-mentoring more available to the general public
Dianne has dual certification as a yoga teacher and is an experienced yoga teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience. Dianne’s yoga classes are gentle, mindful and personalized to the unique needs of each student. She draws on a vast background of experience with a blend of various styles including: Kripalu, Anusara, Iyengar, Sivananda, Satyananda, Somatic, Feldenkrais, Ahimsa, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Kundalini.
Her meditation and Yoga Nidra training derives from the Swami Satyananda Bihar School in programs with Swami Muktidharma from New Zealand, and Swami Shankardev Sawarswati, founder of Big Shakti, from Australia. Her meditation/self-reflective practices include Buddhist, mindfulness and psychosynthesis practices.
Dianne is a certified Yoga Therapy Practitioner in Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy and Yoga Therapy Group Facilitation. She has completed 4 levels of certification in Ayurveda and Thai Assisted Yoga Therapy with Kam Thye Chow at the Lotus Palm School for Thai Yoga Massage in Montreal. She also completed an 18 month course of study in Practical Ayurveda, Marma Therapy, and Pulse Diagnosis with Dr. Rama Kant Mishra and has studied with Dr. Vasant Lad, founder of The Ayurvedic Institute in NM, at Ananda Ashram and at the Kripalu Yoga and HealingCenter.
